attack in less than two weeks on an anti-racist activist in the Pacific Northwest occurred in the early hours of Monday, April 5, in Abbotsford, B.C. A device detonated in the doorway of the home of Maitland Cassia, media liason and one of the organizers of the March 21 anti-Nazi rally at New Westminster’s Braid SkyTrain Station. The "blast" woke the residents of the house around 2 AM; no one was injured by the resulting fire. Portland Anti-Racist Action joins Cassia in identifying this attack as neo-Nazi retaliation for vocal, public anti-racist organizing.
Neo-Nazis have not always been able to sustain this level of violence and public presence; they tend to turn on each other in the face of community organizing and determined opposition. So it is time to turn up the pressure. Rose City Antifascists calls on communities, especially on the West coast, to step up and oppose white supremacist organizing and racial hatred on the streets, at work, and in the classroom. Counter the neo-Nazi attempts to intimidate and control with social organization, solidarity, and rational thought.
